Is Options Trading Software an Option for You?
Investors who trade options now have plenty of new tools to help them manage their trades faster and better than ever before. Over the last few years, a wide variety of options trading software has reached the market. Whether web-based or PC-based, options trading software can make thousands of computations in an instant, something that wasn't even possible just a few years ago. In the past, by the time you finished the first round of calculations, market conditions may have changed several times. Now, you can watch the market change in real time, and concentrate on sticking to your trading strategy rather than watching "the numbers".
Options trading software falls into two general categories. The first is software that will help you place and manage your trades, and that will keep track of your trades so you (and the tax man) know how much of a trading gain or loss you've accumulated. As with any business or investment, you have to track and measure how you're doing, so that you can make appropriate adjustments in your options strategy. Many brokers provide this type of software either free, or at a very nominal charge. After all, they want to make it as easy as possible for you to place your options trades through them.
The other, broader range of options trading software will actually suggest trades to you. Based on some information you input, such as your goals, risk tolerance, investment time frame, and an analysis of current streaming market data, this type of software will typically provide an indicator of the potential price movement of an option. Based on mathematical analysis, these software packages often will provide a ranking of various options trades for you to consider.
Remember, whether you are using standalone options trading software or subscribe to a service that offers this, the software itself is not a golden goose. You will still need to exercise due diligence before placing your options trades.
